Getting paid
Selling to large companies comes with its own paperwork: vendor onboarding, purchase orders, and payment terms that stretch well past the end of the month. The work happens in March. The money arrives in June.
Look at that on a cash basis and March seems like a terrible month and June a great one. Neither is true, and you can’t plan around either.
Accrual accounting records what you earned when you earned it. Receivables tracking shows what’s still owed and how late it is. For a business that’s effectively financing its own work until the invoices clear, that’s the difference between knowing and guessing.
